JUST IN: Court of Appeal Upholds Death Sentence for Chief Ramon Adedoyin Over Timothy Adegoke’s Murder
The Court of Appeal in Akure, Ondo State, has upheld the death sentence of Chief Ramon Adedoyin, the owner of Hilton Hotel, over the murder of Timothy Adegoke, a student of Obafemi Awolowo University. This ruling comes after Adedoyin was found guilty by an Osun State High Court and sentenced to death for Adegoke’s murder, which allegedly occurred at his hotel on November 5, 2021.
According to the Appeal Court’s judgment, Adedoyin’s appeal was dismissed in part, confirming the lower court’s verdict. However, the court quashed the orders for the forfeiture of Hilton Hotel and the educational scholarship for Adegoke’s children, which were part of the original verdict.
Justice Adepele Ojo of the Osun State High Court had initially sentenced Adedoyin and two members of his staff, Adeniyi Aderogba and Oyetunde Kazeem, to death by hanging. The court had held that Adedoyin’s decision not to enter the witness box implied his agreement to the murder charge pressed against him by the prosecution.
