JUST IN: Cargo Aircraft Crash-Lands at Abuja Airport, No Casualties Reported
A cargo aircraft operated by Allied Air crash-landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) in Abuja on Wednesday morning following a failure of its landing gear. The aircraft, identified by registration number 5N-JRT, touched down at around 10:00 am with six crew members on board.
According to sources familiar with the incident, all six crew members were safely evacuated and are undergoing medical evaluations at the 063 Nigerian Air Force (NAF) medical unit. No injuries or fatalities were reported.
Emergency responders quickly secured the crash site under the coordination of the Military Airport Commandant (MAC) and other relevant agencies. The airport’s runway has been temporarily closed to facilitate the removal of the aircraft and to allow thorough inspections for possible damage, causing delays to inbound and outbound flights.
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is overseeing efforts to clear the runway and restore normal operations. This incident comes three months after a helicopter crash in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, which claimed three lives.
