JUST IN: CAF Delists Libya vs Nigeria AFCON Qualifier Amid Airport Ordeal
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially removed the Group D second-leg fixture between Nigeria and Libya from the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers schedule.
Originally set for Tuesday, the Super Eagles of Nigeria were to face Libya in the return leg after securing a 1-0 victory in the first leg, which took place last Friday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
However, complications arose when the Nigerian national team and officials endured a 14-hour ordeal at a Libyan airport, where they reportedly faced significant mistreatment. In response, the Super Eagles opted to return home, prompting CAF to launch an investigation into the incident.
Adding to the controversy, the Libyan Football Federation accused Nigeria of sabotage and has threatened to pursue legal action. CAF’s latest update on its official Twitter account listed matches to be played across the continent on Tuesday but notably excluded the Libya vs Nigeria game.
