JUST IN: Attempted Military Breach Foiled in Sierra Leone, Nationwide Curfew Declared

The Sierra Leonean government confirmed on Sunday morning that unidentified individuals had attempted to breach the country’s military armory at Wilberforce barracks. Swift action by state security forces resulted in the apprehension of all involved.

Chernor Bah, the Minister of Information and Civic Culture, issued a public notice stating, “In the early hours of Sunday, November 26th, 2023, some unidentified individuals attempted to break into the military armory at Wilberforce barracks. They have all been rebuffed.” Assuring the public of government control, he added, “To enable the security forces to continue the process of apprehending the suspects, a nationwide curfew is declared with immediate effect across the country. We strongly advise citizens to stay indoors.”

The government emphasized that accurate information and updates on the situation should be obtained through official Ministry of Information and Civic Education channels.

This incident follows a series of military breaches and coups in various West African countries in recent years, including Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger Republic, and Gabon, where military juntas have taken control amid sanctions from both the African Union and international organizations. The situation in Sierra Leone is being closely monitored as the government takes measures to address the attempted breach and maintain public safety.
