JUST IN: Another Court Orders Sanusi’s Eviction Amid Kano Emirship Circus
In what can only be described as the latest twist in the never-ending saga of the Kano Emirship crisis, a Federal High Court in Kano has issued yet another baffling order. This time, the court has mandated the eviction of the recently reinstated Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, from the Gidan Rumfa Palace, adding more confusion to an already chaotic situation.
The court has also directed the police to ensure all rights and privileges of the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Bayero, who was deposed just last week following the passage of an amended Kano Emirate Council bill, are fully restored.
Justice S. A. Amobeda, in a stunning display of judicial acrobatics, declared the ex-parte order on Tuesday, claiming it was in the interest of justice and peace in Kano. The judge issued an interim injunction to prevent any attempts to harass or infringe upon Bayero’s rights.
“An order of interim injunction restraining the Respondents either by themselves, their agents, servants, privies or any other person or authority from inviting, arresting, detaining, threatening, intimidating, harassing the Applicant, raiding, tempering with or visiting the Applicant’s in order to arrest or infringe on his right or in any other way infringe or attempt to infringe the Applicant’s rights pending the hearing and determination of the Originating Motion,” the order states.
In a comedic twist, just as the Federal High Court was busy issuing its contradictory orders, a state high court led by Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu had already granted an order restraining any eviction of Emir Sanusi II.
As the legal drama continues to unfold, Kano residents and observers alike are left scratching their heads, wondering which court order to follow and whether this circus will ever end. The suit is adjourned to June 4, 2024, for yet another round of legal fireworks.
