JUST IN: Another Attack in Anambra—9 Killed, 1 Kidnapped Near Ifite Amansea Road
Nine people were shot dead, and one person kidnapped near Wintess Garden on Ifite Amansea Road, Awka, earlier this morning. This fresh violence comes just four days after the brutal attack in Nibo, where 16 people lost their lives.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers targeted members of the Hausa community. “They targeted Hausa people, and I don’t know why. Seven of those killed were Hausa—two at Wintess junction and five more at a mechanic workshop near Laurel junction,” an eyewitness reported. Witnesses at the scene mentioned that the gunmen arrived in a white Venza before opening fire indiscriminately.
The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the attack. SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer, said: “The Police responding team has taken over the scene of indiscriminate shooting today, 24th October 2024, by 9:15 am at Ifite, behind Unizik gate, Awka, by suspected gunmen. Preliminary information shows that the armed men unprovoked started shooting sporadically, and some bullets fatally hit four persons. These victims were rushed to the hospital for treatment. Empty bullet shells were recovered from the scene.”
SP Ikenga further assured the public that operations are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators, and more details will be provided as investigations continue.
