JUST IN: Another Aircraft Skids off Runway at Lagos Airport

An Embraer 145 aircraft belonging to premium services provider Xejet Airlines has veered off the runway and landed in the grassy area adjacent to Runway 18Left at Lagos Airport. The incident occurred shortly after the aircraft, carrying 52 passengers and crew, departed from Abuja Airport.

According to sources within the airport, the runway has been closed to air traffic, and the Aerodrome Fire and Safety Rescue Unit of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has swiftly responded to the scene to facilitate passenger rescue operations.

Xejet Airlines, known for its business class services, is headquartered at Lagos Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS), where the unfortunate incident took place. This is not the first time an aircraft from Xejet Airlines has experienced such an incident at Lagos Airport.

Reports suggest that the aircraft, bearing registration mark 5NBZZ, encountered difficulties at approximately 11:29 am local time, veering off the runway near B5 and coming to rest in the grass verge. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported, and efforts are underway to safely evacuate all passengers and crew members.

With heavy rainfall characterizing the day in Lagos, experts speculate that adverse weather conditions may have contributed to the aircraft’s skidding off the runway. The investigation into the incident is ongoing as authorities work to ensure the safety and security of air travel operations at Lagos Airport.
