Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested a second suspect connected to a high-profile kidnapping and armed robbery incident in Awka, where a ransom of One Million Naira (₦1,000,000) was reportedly collected, according to a press statement from the Command.

The Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Awkuzu apprehended 32-year-old Ifeanyi Ekemezie at Isuaniocha in the early hours of 17th February 2026. His arrest follows that of 33-year-old Ndubuisi Anyakaku on 13th February, whose bank account was allegedly used to receive the ransom.

The case traces back to 31st December 2025, when a resident of Amansea was attacked in his home, shot in the leg, and kidnapped. During the assault, the victim’s Toyota Highlander was stolen, and Three Million Naira (₦3,000,000) was transferred from his bank account. He was later rescued from an undisclosed location.

According to the press statement, Ekemezie confessed during interrogation to being part of a three-man gang that specializes in kidnapping and car theft within Awka and its environs. He also admitted membership in the notorious Vikings Confraternity and involvement in cult-related killings in the area.

The Anambra State Police Command says it is intensifying efforts to apprehend the remaining gang members and recover their operational weapons. Further updates will be communicated as the investigation progresses.
