(JUST IN) Alleged Defamation: Abuja Court Grants Senator Natasha Bail on Self-Recognition, Sets Date for Next Hearing

The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail on self-recognition to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, following her second arraignment over alleged defamation of Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello. Her bail application, led by Prof. Roland Otaru (SAN), was approved by Justice Mohammed Umar, who adjourned the case to September 22, 2025.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan appeared in court alongside her husband, Emmanuel Uduaghan, activist Aisha Yesufu, and supporters. The charges stem from a live TV broadcast in which she allegedly accused Akpabio and Bello of plotting her assassination. The government, through the Attorney General’s office, contends the remarks amount to criminal defamation.
Previously, the court declined to issue a bench warrant for her arrest, ruling that she had not been properly served notice. The case is ongoing.
