JUST IN: Abure Attacked at Abuja Airport, Police Must Fish Out Sponsors — Labour Party

Julius Abure, factional chairman of the Labour Party (LP), was reportedly attacked on Friday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, while waiting to board a Max Air flight to Benin, the Edo State capital.

According to Obiora Ifoh, national publicity secretary of the Abure-led faction, the chairman was confronted by a woman identified as Precious Oruche, popularly known as “Mama P.” Ifoh alleged that the confrontation persisted throughout the flight despite efforts by the cabin crew to restore calm.

The situation escalated on arrival at Benin Airport, where security operatives escorted Abure to safety before handing the suspect over to the police. The LP spokesperson said Oruche kept recording the altercation and later published videos in which she allegedly boasted of her police connections and vowed to continue targeting Abure and members of the party’s leadership.

Ifoh described the incident as a “suicidal aggression” against the LP chairman, accusing unnamed political forces of sponsoring the assault. He stressed that both physical assault and online harassment are criminal offences under Nigerian law and urged the police to investigate the matter thoroughly, including alleged sponsors.

The party appealed to its members to remain calm while awaiting the outcome of police investigations. The incident comes against the backdrop of a prolonged leadership tussle within the LP, with rival factions continuing to lay claim to the chairmanship despite a supreme court ruling.
