JUST IN: Abducted Ekiti State School Pupils Freed After Four Days
The kidnapped pupils of Apostolic Faith Nursery and Primary School in Emure Ekiti have been released from captivity after four harrowing days. The children, along with a head teacher and a driver, were abducted by armed herdsmen on Monday.
It was learned that the pupils were kidnapped after school hours while traveling in their school bus from Emure to Eporo Ekiti. The news caused widespread panic among residents, leading to urgent appeals for increased security measures in the town.
This incident unfolded against the backdrop of heightened security concerns in Ekiti State, following the recent killing of two traditional rulers. The Elesun of Esun-Ekiti, David Babatunde, and Onimojo of Imojo-Ekiti, Ogunsakin Olushola, fell victim to suspected bandits during an ambush on their vehicle. The assailants, believed to be herdsmen, struck near the border communities between Kogi State and Ekiti.
Security agents and vigilantes collaborated to evacuate the corpses, reflecting the escalating security challenges faced by the state.
