JUST IN: 13 Burnt to Death in Ondo Road Accident
Tragedy struck on Saturday morning as 13 people were burnt to death in a devastating road accident on the Owo-Ikare highway in Ondo State. The accident occurred near Abule Panu, before the Ose Bridge, at approximately 10:14 a.m.
Eyewitnesses reported that the collision involved two buses. One of the vehicles, traveling from the Ikare axis, suffered a tyre burst, causing the driver to lose control and collide head-on with an oncoming bus loaded with fabrics. The impact caused both vehicles to burst into flames, leaving the victims burnt beyond recognition.
The Ondo Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ibitoye Samuel, confirmed the incident, stating that 14 people were involved. Of these, 13 died at the scene, while one person survived with severe injuries. The injured survivor was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Owo for treatment, and the deceased were deposited at the same hospital’s morgue.
Emergency responders, including the FRSC, police, and fire service, arrived promptly to manage the aftermath. Samuel urged drivers to prioritize vehicle maintenance and exercise caution on the roads. He also called on passengers to speak out against reckless driving, emphasizing that road safety is everyone’s responsibility.
