Jordan, Uzbekistan Qualify for FIFA World Cup for the First Time

In a historic moment for Asian football, Jordan and Uzbekistan have qualified for the FIFA World Cup for the first time, securing their places in the 2026 edition of the tournament.

Jordan sealed their qualification with an emphatic 3-0 win over Oman, highlighted by a hat-trick from forward Ali Olwan. The victory confirmed Jordan’s position among the top two in Group B of the Asian qualifiers. Ranked 64th in the world, Jordan’s breakthrough comes on the heels of their strong showing as runners-up in the 2023 AFC Asian Cup and marks a major step forward in the country’s football journey.

Uzbekistan booked their ticket after a 0-0 draw against the United Arab Emirates in Abu Dhabi. The result ensured second place in Group A behind Iran, with goalkeeper Utkir Yusupov playing a vital role in maintaining the clean sheet. Ranked 57th globally, the Uzbek team features standout players such as Manchester City’s Abdukodir Khusanov and Roma striker Eldor Shomurodov.

South Korea also confirmed their spot with a 2-0 win over Iraq, aided by an early red card to Iraq’s Ali Al-Hamadi. Goals from Kim Jin-gyu and Oh Hyeon-gyu secured the Taeguk Warriors’ 11th straight World Cup appearance and indirectly helped Jordan’s qualification from Group B.

With their historic debuts, Jordan and Uzbekistan join an expanding list of qualified nations for the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Other confirmed participants include Argentina, New Zealand, Iran, Japan, and South Korea.
