Jigawa Commissioner Suspended After Being Caught in Uncompleted Building with Married Woman

Jigawa State Governor Malam Umar Namadi has suspended the state’s Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwalu Sankara, following allegations of an illicit affair with a married woman. The suspension, announced on Saturday, is aimed at allowing for a full investigation and ensuring transparency in the administration.

The state government’s decision was communicated through a statement by Malam Bala Ibrahim, the Secretary to the Jigawa State Government. According to the statement, the suspension seeks to preserve the integrity of the state administration while the allegations are investigated.

The allegations stem from a report by the Kano State Hisbah Board, which claimed that Sankara was apprehended alongside a married woman, Tasleem Baba Nabegu. Hisbah officials reported that the two were found together in an uncompleted building, allegedly owned by Sankara. The arrest followed a complaint lodged by Nabegu’s brother-in-law, accusing the commissioner of inappropriate conduct.

Dr. Abba Sufi, Director General of the Hisbah Board, confirmed Sankara’s arrest and hinted that the commissioner could face additional charges, including accusations of running illegal drug centers under the names “Picklock” and “360.”

In response to the allegations, Sankara vehemently denied any wrongdoing. In a statement released Friday night, the commissioner labeled the accusations as “false, baseless, and malicious.” He suggested that the claims were part of a politically motivated attempt to tarnish his reputation.

“I categorically state that these allegations are completely false, baseless, and malicious, aimed at tarnishing my reputation,” Sankara said. He further emphasized his respect for the institution of marriage, stating, “As a married man, I have the utmost respect for the sanctity of marriage and would never engage in actions that violate its values.”

Sankara has vowed to take legal action against those he believes are responsible for spreading the allegations, reaffirming his commitment to defending his integrity and character.
