Japa: Canada Lowers CRS Scores for Skilled Nigerian Workers, Others in Latest Immigration Draw

The Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has issued 920 invitations for permanent residency under the Provincial Nominee Programme (PNP) through the Express Entry System. This draw required candidates to have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 739, signaling Canada’s ongoing commitment to attracting skilled workers worldwide to bolster its diverse economy.

This draw follows a previous one on June 19, 2024, where 1,499 invitations were extended with a lower CRS score of 663. These varying score requirements illustrate the dynamic nature of the Express Entry system, designed to provide opportunities across different CRS score ranges.

The tie-breaking rule implemented in the latest draw prioritizes candidates who submitted their profiles earlier when multiple candidates share the lowest CRS score, ensuring fairness in selection.

As of July 2, 2024, data from the Express Entry pool reveals a competitive environment, with the majority of candidates falling within the 451-500 CRS score range. Specifically, there are 940 candidates scoring between 601-1200, 16,521 candidates between 501-600, and 64,761 candidates between 451-500, with fewer candidates in lower score ranges.

The Provincial Nominee Program remains a crucial pathway for skilled workers seeking permanent residency in Canada. This program enables provinces and territories to nominate candidates based on their skills, education, and work experience, aligning with the specific economic needs of each region.

Managed by IRCC, the Express Entry system serves as the primary mechanism for processing applications for permanent residency from skilled immigrants. It encompasses various immigration programs, including the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Provincial Nominee Program.

Candidates in the Express Entry pool are ranked using the CRS, which considers factors such as age, education, work experience, and language proficiency. The CRS score determines eligibility for receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency, with regular draws held approximately every two weeks, each specifying a cut-off score for eligibility.

Canada’s strategic immigration policies underpin its efforts to address labor market needs and attract global talent essential for sustaining economic growth and diversity across its provinces and territories.
