“It’s About People’s Egos — Everybody. No Exception,” Says Dauda Lawal on PDP Crisis
Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has said the ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is largely driven by ego among its top members. Speaking to journalists in Gusau on Wednesday, Lawal noted that the blame for the internal strife rests on the entire party leadership, not just one individual.
“Everybody has their own issue. It is not just about Atiku Abubakar. It is beyond him,” the governor said. “It is an internal problem within the PDP, and we are making a conscious effort. I think it is about people’s egos — everybody. No exception.”
Lawal’s remarks align with earlier comments made in May by Umar Damagum, the PDP’s acting national chairman, who described the party’s troubles as self-inflicted during a meeting of the party’s national executive committee. Damagum warned that those responsible for engineering the internal discord could face expulsion.
The PDP has been facing a deepening internal rift that has already led to a wave of defections, with several members crossing over to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
