ISWAP Militants Launch Deadly Assault on Borno State Police Headquarters, Claiming Four Lives

The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), an offshoot of Boko Haram, targeted the police headquarters in Gajiram, Borno State, resulting in the tragic loss of four officers during a midnight attack.

Military sources and security analyst Zagazola Makama corroborated the incident, confirming that the assailants, affiliated with the Islamic State, infiltrated Gajiram around 1 am on Saturday. The attackers, disguised to blend in, swiftly approached the police quarters and unleashed gunfire on unsuspecting officers, leaving four dead.

Makama reported that Mobile Policemen at the scene engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle, preventing the complete destruction of the quarters. By the time Operation Hadin Kai forces reached the location, the assailants had fled.

ISWAP’s actions come in the wake of the death of Jamā’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah wa’l-Jihād (JAS) leader, Abubakar Shekau. Since then, ISWAP has been strengthening its presence around Lake Chad, absorbing former Boko Haram members who defected under Shekau’s leadership.

Despite the Nigerian Army’s claims of insurgency containment, ISWAP continues to wreak havoc, causing thousands of casualties and displacing millions in Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe states.
