ISWAP Kills Borno Local Chief After Accusing Him of Working With Nigerian Authorities
Islamic State West Africa Province has executed a local chief from Yawal Kawa in Borno State after accusing him of supporting the Nigerian government and the military.
A security analyst, Brant Philip, disclosed the incident on X on Thursday, December 18, 2025. He said the chief was abducted by ISWAP militants last week and subjected to questioning over alleged links with government authorities.
According to Philip, the group claimed it found the chief guilty of cooperating with what it described as the “apostate Nigerian government” and the Nigerian Army, accusations frequently used by the group to justify attacks on civilians and traditional leaders in the region.
ISWAP later released a photograph showing the execution through its Amaq propaganda channel on Thursday.
