INEC Meets Turaki, Wike-Backed PDP Factions in Abuja
INEC has convened a meeting in Abuja with the two rival factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as part of efforts to address the party’s deepening leadership crisis.
The meeting brings together representatives of the faction led by Tanimu Turaki—elected chairman at a convention backed by several PDP governors—and the rival group headed by Abdulrahman Mohammed, which is aligned with Nyesom Wike, the FCT minister.
Turaki’s delegation includes members of his National Working Committee and former Niger State governor Babangida Aliyu. The Mohammed faction is represented by members of its National Caretaker Committee, including secretary Samuel Anyanwu.
The crisis stems from a November convention organised by the governors’ bloc, where a new NWC was elected and Wike, along with several allies, was expelled from the party. The Wike-backed faction rejected the expulsions, set up parallel party organs—including an NWC, Board of Trustees, and NEC—and retaliated by expelling members of the opposing faction.
