INEC Begins Process to Register ADA, 109 Other Political Parties
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced it has commenced the process of registering 110 new political parties, including the All Democratic Alliance (ADA). This development was confirmed on Wednesday, just a day after INEC clarified that ADA—an emerging coalition driven by opposition figures—had not yet fulfilled the requirements for registration.
In a statement signed by INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the commission revealed that it had received letters of intent from 110 associations seeking official recognition as political parties as of Monday, June 23, 2025. According to the statement, INEC is currently reviewing the applications in line with existing legal procedures and its own Regulations and Guidelines.
The commission noted that all applications, except six that were recently submitted, have been acknowledged and processing is underway. The remaining six will be formally acknowledged before the end of the week.
INEC also reminded interested groups that the Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties 2022—which outline the full registration process—is publicly accessible on the commission’s website.
