India Deports 32 Nigerians Linked to Major Transnational Drug Network
India has deported 32 Nigerian nationals linked to a transnational drug network, following a major crackdown on narcotics operations across multiple states. The move comes less than two weeks after security forces arrested around 50 suspects in what authorities described as one of the country’s largest coordinated raids on a foreign-run drug and hawala syndicate operating in major cities.
Investigators traced the network to a Nigeria-based kingpin known as “Nick,” who is wanted in several drug-trafficking cases. According to officials from the Elite Anti-Narcotics Group for Law Enforcement (EAGLE), the Nigerians arrested in Delhi were working under the direction of this fugitive leader. Authorities say the kingpin maintained around 100 associates in Delhi alone, forming part of a complex supply chain serving clients nationwide.
A forensic review of digital devices seized from the suspects revealed that the network had over 3,000 clients across India. Payment trails, encrypted communications, and delivery records helped authorities piece together the operation. Some transactions were routed through businesses that appeared legitimate but were reportedly used to launder drug money. Investigators also uncovered companies allegedly involved in cleaning illicit proceeds. One example included a publisher who laundered Rs 20 lakh to Nigeria, while other peddlers collaborated with footwear and apparel businesses.
The Delhi Police prioritized the deportation of 32 Nigerian nationals, while seven others are facing prosecution after drugs were recovered from them during the raids. Officials said remaining suspects could also be deported after completing necessary documentation and clearance procedures.
