Imo Village Banishes Woman for Allegedly Selling Sister-in-Law’s Child for ₦800,000
A woman from Umekpu village in Ogbaku, Mbaitoli Local Government Area, Imo State, has been expelled from her community following allegations that she sold her sister-in-law’s son for ₦800,000.
Sources say the village leadership acted promptly after the allegations surfaced, officially declaring the woman unwelcome in Umekpu.
A video circulated on Thursday shows the woman being escorted out of the village by a group of residents, who are heard singing and shouting as she leaves.
In the footage, a community leader explained the decision:
“We are banishing her from our community, Umekpu Village, Ogbaku, in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State. She sold her sister-in-law’s son for ₦800,000, and for that reason, we have to banish her.”*
