Imo Vigilante Abducted During Herdsmen Clash Found Dead, Body Mutilated
In Imo State, the body of a vigilante abducted during a clash between herdsmen and local security operatives in Amakohia-Ubi community, Owerri-West Local Government Area, has been discovered mutilated.
Uche Ejiofor, who was taken on Wednesday, August 19, 2025, was found on Friday in a bush two days after his abduction. Sources from the community said his body showed signs of severe stabbing. “Yes, he has been found but in a gruesome state, his body was badly stabbed,” one source said. “We think they might have tried shooting him to death but couldn’t succeed, so they resorted to butchering him.”
Ejiofor’s colleagues reportedly found his body while combing the area, and it has since been deposited in the morgue.
The confrontation that led to Ejiofor’s abduction occurred when vigilantes tried to stop herders and their cattle from entering local farmlands. The clash resulted in the death of another vigilante and caused many residents to flee their homes. One resident expressed uncertainty about returning, saying, “For me, I’m not returning soon, but I can go back in the morning. Sleeping there is what I can’t guarantee.”
