“I’m Not a Thief” — Sujimoto Speaks Out After EFCC Declares Him Wanted
Businessman Olasijibomi Ogundele, CEO of Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited, has reacted to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) declaration that he is wanted.
The EFCC, in a statement signed by spokesperson Dele Oyewale on Friday, urged Nigerians with information about Mr. Ogundele’s whereabouts to contact the agency. The anti-graft body reportedly linked the businessman to alleged diversion of funds and money laundering.
Hours later, a video of Mr. Ogundele went viral online, showing him visibly emotional as he denied any wrongdoing.
“I’m not a thief. I’m not a fugitive,” Mr. Ogundele said. He explained that the allegations relate to a contract between his company and the Enugu State Government.
According to the real estate developer, he was commissioned to work on several government projects, including a school, and later a proposed 69-story building. He claimed he undertook the work with sincerity but faced numerous challenges, including inflation, prolonged delays, and security risks in some areas.
“I mobilized 42 engineers, rented a house in the state, and worked tirelessly despite an accident that broke my back,” he said. “The contract was challenging, but I remained committed.”
Mr. Ogundele lamented that the EFCC’s announcement had damaged his company’s reputation but stressed his determination to clear his name.
“They destroyed my company that I built, and they abused me. But I’m going to go there. I’m going to the EFCC office. I’m going to go and clear my name,” he declared.
He added that the delays and rising costs over the past few years had compounded the difficulties of the project.
