“Igbo presidency is impossible without alliance with North or West” — APGA National Chair
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Sly Ezeokenwa, says the party’s decision to align with Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections is driven by political necessity.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Monday, Ezeokenwa said a presidential candidate from the South-East cannot secure victory without support from other regions, particularly the North and the South-West.
He explained that APGA’s position reflects the need for national alliances in Nigeria’s electoral system, noting that regional backing remains critical to winning the presidency.
Ezeokenwa also cited ideological similarities between APGA and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing both parties as proponents of progressivism. He said this shared outlook underpins the decision to collaborate.
According to him, elements of Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda align with APGA’s manifesto, reinforcing the basis for cooperation.
He added that Nigeria’s informal power rotation arrangement between the North and the South continues to shape political calculations ahead of the 2027 elections.
