‘If Jonathan’s Government Was Removed, APC Can Be Cut Into Pieces’ — Galadima

A senior figure in the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Buba Galadima, has said Nigerians may vote against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027 if economic and security conditions do not improve.

Galadima made the remarks on Thursday during an appearance on *Politics Today*, where he criticised the Federal Government’s policies and rejected claims that living standards are improving.

He said public frustration is increasing and warned that authorities should not dismiss it. Referring to arrests linked to public commentary, he cited cases in Kano where young men who expressed their views on radio were detained and prosecuted, sometimes in late court sessions.

According to him, such actions could intensify public anger if grievances remain unresolved. He cautioned against assuming that citizens would not respond at the ballot box.

Galadima referenced the 2015 general election, when voters removed the administration of Goodluck Jonathan amid concerns over insecurity in the North-East. He argued that the current situation is more severe and could produce a stronger reaction.

On the economy, he accused the government of weakening agriculture through grain importation and rising production costs. He said fertiliser prices, which he put at between ₦60,000 and ₦70,000 per bag, are beyond the reach of many farmers.

He also questioned the level of farming activity in parts of the North, saying that during a recent visit to Maiduguri he observed limited dry-season farming. He urged the government to verify conditions on the ground.

Galadima added that sustained pressure on farmers could undermine food production and threaten investments in rice mills established in recent years.
