ICPC Nabs Suspected Vote Buyers with Large Sums in Sokoto Bye-elections
During the Saturday bye-elections in Sokoto State, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) apprehended three individuals suspected of engaging in vote-buying activities.
The ICPC, in an official statement on its X handle, disclosed that the arrests occurred at a polling unit within the Yabo/Shagari Federal Constituency. The suspects were found in possession of a substantial sum of N3,105,400 directly within the voting premises.
All three suspects are now in custody, and the ICPC has initiated an investigation to uncover the motives behind their actions. The commission emphasized its collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure the prosecution of these cases.
It is noteworthy that the Saturday bye-elections faced challenges, prompting INEC to suspend voting in certain areas across the country due to incidents of violence and the abduction of election officials by hoodlums.
