“I Will Never Support Fubara Again in My Political Life” – Wike
Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has publicly announced that he will no longer support Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara in his political endeavors. The former governor of Rivers made the declaration during an interview on Channels Television on Friday.
Wike, who played a pivotal role in Fubara’s rise to power, expressed disappointment over the fallout between them, saying, “I will never support Fubara again in my political life. I won’t do that. Everyone knows me.”
Reflecting on his contributions to Fubara’s victory in the 2023 Rivers gubernatorial election, Wike said he invested significant effort and sacrifices to ensure the success of Fubara’s candidacy. He emphasized that without his backing, Fubara wouldn’t have secured the governorship.
In a sharp criticism of the governor, Wike accused Fubara of fabricating lies against him after assuming office. The rift between the two prominent politicians has contributed to ongoing political tensions in Rivers State.
“You turned it into claims that I’m asking for N20 billion, and N100 billion. You told lies against me. I brought you up, put you here and there,” Wike said, voicing his frustrations.
The political crisis in Rivers has intensified in recent months, with the state’s house of assembly split into two opposing factions. One group, led by Martin Amaewhule, has 27 members and is aligned with Wike, while the other, led by Victor Jumbo, is loyal to Fubara. Both factions are locked in a legal battle to determine the legitimate house of assembly.
Despite the division, Governor Fubara continues to recognize and work with the Jumbo-led faction, which has only three lawmakers but retains the state government’s approval for legislative interactions.
