“I Will Fight On Until Justice Is Attained” – Wike Pulls Out of PDP Agreements, Blames Makinde for Crisis
The crisis within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has deepened as Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, announced his withdrawal from all previously agreed resolutions aimed at resolving the party’s internal conflict. In a statement released on Sunday titled “PDP Crisis: My Position,” Wike declared his intention to continue the fight for justice within the party, accusing Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde of being the chief architect of the PDP’s problems.
Wike criticized Makinde for allegedly undermining the trust built among key party stakeholders and failing to honor the terms of reconciliation agreements. He stated that a series of meetings, including one of the G5 in Lagos and a broader session at Bukola Saraki’s guest house in Abuja, had yielded resolutions meant to stabilize the PDP. These included the recognition of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary in line with a Supreme Court ruling, the withdrawal of all legal cases related to Rivers State by the National Legal Adviser, and an end to the push for a state of emergency.
However, Wike said these agreements were flagrantly violated. He accused Makinde and Enugu State Governor Peter Mba of orchestrating a South-East meeting that threatened to withdraw support from the PDP unless Ude Okoye was made Secretary. He also alleged that Makinde manipulated party officials at the national secretariat to undermine Senator Anyanwu by installing the Deputy National Secretary as acting National Secretary.
Wike expressed frustration over what he described as continued dishonesty and bad faith among PDP leaders, citing as an example the aborted zonal elective congress in Jos, which failed because the invitation letter to INEC was not signed by the legally recognized National Secretary. He argued that the repeated breaches of trust and disregard for legal and internal party processes were unacceptable.
He emphasized his long-standing commitment to the PDP since 1998 and lamented that despite his contributions to the party and to the election victories of some of the governors now opposing him, he had made no personal demands. Wike concluded by stating that he no longer had confidence in the current reconciliation efforts and has now fully withdrawn from all agreements, pledging to continue the struggle until justice is achieved within the PDP.
