“I Went Hungry With This Man, Now He Wants Slay Queens” — Woman Refuses Divorce After 30 Years of Marriage

There was high drama at the Ndola Main Local Court in Zambia when a 30-year-old marriage turned into a heated courtroom spectacle. Noreen Chisanza flatly refused to grant her husband, Norman Ng’uni, a divorce, declaring that she would not walk away after decades of hardship just so younger women could enjoy the rewards of her sacrifices.

Norman had confidently appeared in court expecting a smooth divorce process, but was taken aback when Noreen stood her ground. She told the court she had endured years of struggle and suffering by his side, including going hungry, and that she would not step aside now that he was financially comfortable.

“Why should I leave him now that he’s successful, when I stood by him during his struggling years?” she asked, visibly emotional. “I went hungry with this man, but now that he has money, he wants to run off to slay queens. Never!”

Norman countered with his own dramatic claims, accusing his wife of attempting to bewitch him. “Your Honour, I caught her red-handed trying to bewitch me! I don’t want to wake up one day turned into a frog!” he exclaimed, causing laughter in the courtroom.

The tension reportedly began in 2018 when their daughter fell ill. Noreen said some family members suspected witchcraft, but instead of defending her, Norman sided with the rumours and began to distance himself. She claimed he became secretive, constantly on his phone and rarely at home.

“This man is never home! And when he is, he’s busy texting these small girls. Then one day, we heard he has impregnated someone else. After all I have been through?” she said in frustration.

The couple, married since 1995 with six children and a K30 dowry paid at the start, now find themselves at a crossroads. Norman insists he wants to leave, but Noreen refuses to let go.

The presiding magistrate, Elizabeth Banda, adjourned the case for judgment as tensions remained high in the courtroom.
