“I Was in a Meeting Where Wike Promised to Hold PDP Down for Tinubu” — Makinde
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has linked the ongoing tensions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to what he described as an internal political alignment involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and President Bola Tinubu.
Makinde made the remarks on Sunday during a meeting in Bauchi with Governor Bala Mohammed. He said discussions he previously attended suggested that Wike had indicated an intention to maintain influence within the PDP in a way that would ultimately favour Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.
According to him, individuals and groups within the party who align with Wike’s camp should be understood to share that political direction.
Makinde stated that while internal disagreements are not unusual in political parties, members are free to associate with any bloc of their choosing. He added that those who choose to align with Wike’s faction should do so openly outside the PDP framework if their political objectives differ from the party’s broader position.
He also contrasted the perceived backing of different groups, noting that while some factions may have institutional support, others rely on public support to advance their position within the political space.
