“I Was Earning N30,000 as a School Principal While Dating My Wife” — Nigerian Man Shares Story

A Nigerian man identified as Belano has shared his journey of love and resilience, revealing that he was earning just N30,000 as a school principal and teacher when he began dating his American wife.

The father of one, who now lives with his wife in the United States, disclosed the story on his X handle on Thursday. According to him, his wife first met him while visiting the private school where he taught Mathematics, Physics, and Further Mathematics, and also served as principal.

Recounting the challenges of planning their wedding on a limited income, Belano explained that he relied on savings and contributions from friends. He revealed that the ceremony cost less than N500,000, with many expenses reduced through the support of loved ones. A friend discouraged him from selling his phone to buy a wedding ring and instead gave him N50,000, which he used to purchase both a ring and a suit. The inexpensive ring, he added, began to peel after three weeks, but his wife has kept it as a sentimental reminder even though he has since bought her better ones.

Belano further noted that the wedding hall was provided at no cost, decoration was handled by a friend, food was organized by family, and only a small circle of guests were invited, though some family members brought additional attendees. He emphasized that the entire wedding did not exceed N300,000, proving that love and determination, rather than wealth, made the day possible.
