“I Told My Husband to Marry Another Woman, But He Refused” – Pastor Funmilola Abraham, Mother of Twins After 24 Years of Waiting

Pastor Funmilola Abraham, a 58-year-old Regional Overseer at the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, recently welcomed a set of twins after 24 years of marriage without children. Speaking from a place of deep reflection and gratitude, she recounted the long and emotionally trying journey that finally led to her becoming a mother at 57.

Pastor Funmilola got married on March 31, 2001. In 2002, she underwent surgery to remove fibroids, with doctors assuring her that everything was in order. Her husband also underwent medical evaluation and was found to be fine. Still, conception didn’t come. She underwent multiple medical procedures, including nearly ten flushing treatments and several IVF attempts, one of which led to a pregnancy with triplets that had to be medically evacuated at five months due to complications. “I had done everything humanly possible,” she said, “but nothing worked.”

Despite the disappointments, she continued to serve in her ministry, pouring herself into the lives of others while quietly nursing her own pain. “I’ve never seen it in the Bible that a woman must have children to enter heaven,” she reflected, “That truth gave me peace.” Her resilience and faith remained unwavering, even when she found herself praying for women who returned nine months later to dedicate their babies, while she was still childless. “I rejoiced with them, but deep down I would whisper to God, ‘Please, answer me too.’”

Pastor Funmilola emphasized that her journey was not solely spiritual. She acknowledged the role of medical science, especially IVF, in helping women conceive. “It is not a lack of faith to use medicine,” she said. “God gives people knowledge, and IVF is part of that.” However, she also noted the physical, emotional, and financial toll IVF takes, especially for older women. “IVF works better for younger people,” she advised, encouraging women considering the option to start early, between the ages of 35 and 40.

After previous IVF failures, she stopped pursuing treatment and leaned wholly into her faith and calling. But in late 2023, during the New Year crossover service, she again laid her desires before God. Around the same time, she learned of a matron who had helped other women. Initially cautious, she eventually visited the matron and began treatment involving both oral and vaginal medication. Soon after, she began to feel different and realized she had conceived naturally.

The twins were born on March 12, 2025. Their birth came as a surprise to many who had known her only as the praying pastor with no children. “People were shocked. They couldn’t believe I hadn’t had children all this while,” she said.

Her in-laws, she shared, were consistently supportive. “Prayer and good behaviour helped me a lot,” she said, explaining that her commitment to family responsibilities and genuine care earned her the respect and love of her husband’s family. Her husband, too, stood by her faithfully. “At a point, I told him to go get another woman from the village,” she recalled, “but he said, ‘Didn’t I see the village before I married you? I’m not going anywhere.’”

Now a mother of twins after more than two decades of waiting, Pastor Funmilola sees her story as one of grace, perseverance, and divine timing. “Everything we are asking God for, He has already made provision for,” she said. “But we must take steps—prayer and medical intervention can work together. You can’t separate the two.”
