“I Survived Multiple Kidnapping and Assassination Attempts in the Last Year” — Amaewhule
Rivers State House of Assembly Speaker Martin Amaewhule has revealed that he has survived multiple attempts on his life, expressing gratitude to God for his safety. The disclosure came during his 52nd birthday thanksgiving service at All Saints Anglican Church in Eliozu, Obio/Akpor LGA.
“I am not just marking another birthday but acknowledging that many people had planned to take my life in the last one year, but God didn’t allow them,” Amaewhule said.
Recounting a harrowing experience in 2008, he said he narrowly escaped death after being abducted by unidentified gunmen at his residence following a Sunday church service. The speaker explained that the kidnappers had attended the service and later followed him home, tying up his security guard before taking him to a forest where he was held hostage for five days.
During his captivity, Amaewhule said he was moved between hideouts, suffered injuries, and had thorns placed under his feet, while being fed only biscuits. “They inflicted several injuries on my head and body… I almost bled to death,” he recounted.
Despite the ordeal, Amaewhule expressed profound gratitude for divine protection over the years. “When God does things for you, it is important to appreciate Him more,” he said, thanking God for his guidance, preservation, and blessings.
