I Stabbed Police Inspector to Death Because He Was Seducing My Wife – 72-Year-Old Suspect Tells Court

A 72-year-old man, Sabo Mohammed, has confessed to fatally stabbing Police Inspector Nasiru Musa, claiming the officer was having an affair with his wife. Mohammed made the admission before the Minna Chief Magistrate Court Five, presided over by Hadiza Imam.

According to the suspect, he had long suspected an illicit relationship between his wife and the deceased, who served as a Police Prosecutor at a Chief Magistrate Court in Mashegu. He said this suspicion drove him to confront and stab the officer multiple times, resulting in Musa’s death.

Mohammed was arraigned by the Homicide Squad of the Niger State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department on a single count of culpable homicide, an offence punishable under Section 221 of the Penal Code. During the court session, he expressed remorse, particularly because the incident occurred during the holy month of Ramadan.

Chief Magistrate Imam clarified that her court lacked jurisdiction to accept a plea in the case, noting that it could only conduct preliminary proceedings. She instructed the Police Prosecutor, Inspector Emmanuel Ogiri, to forward the case file to the Niger State Ministry of Justice for legal advice.

The case was adjourned to April 15, and Mohammed was ordered to be remanded in correctional custody pending further mention.
