“I Received a Call From Abuja Saying I Am Marked by the US for Elimination” — Sheikh Gumi

Northern Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has claimed that he was warned by Abuja security sources that he is allegedly on a list for elimination linked to Boko Haram.

Speaking to his congregation, Gumi said he received an early-morning phone call from an unnamed official. “They called me from Abuja and said there was a security meeting,” he said. “They told me my name had been mentioned and that I had been marked for elimination.”

The cleric questioned the designation of Boko Haram as terrorists, suggesting that external powers were influencing Nigeria’s security narrative. “Even Americans, they said they came to fight terrorists. So who are the terrorists? They are the ones,” he said.

Gumi also alleged that he could be targeted in an American airstrike. “I received a call from a top official in Abuja informing me that I am among those marked by the US for elimination through an American airstrike, as part of Boko Haram. Northern leaders and clerics must speak up against these lies,” he said.

He blamed Nigeria’s worsening insecurity and social divisions on foreign-backed narratives and policies he associated with United States President Donald Trump. “Because of lies, you brought violence, but where are the leaders? What did they do? What about the scholars? Where are they? Everyone has gone to hide in their corners,” Gumi said.

The cleric warned that silence from political and religious leaders was deepening the country’s crises. “This is the kind of situation we are in. It is dragging the country down,” he added, accusing elites of abandoning meaningful dialogue while Nigerians face growing hardship and oppression.

Authorities in Abuja have not yet responded to Gumi’s claims, and the allegations remain unverified.
