“I Prefer to Be Single Than Date a Man Who Treks” – Nigerian Businesswoman Sparks Online Debate
Nigerian businesswoman Anthonia Umerah has stirred conversation on social media with her candid views on relationships and financial compatibility. In a recent post, Umerah expressed her strong preference for financially stable partners, stating she would rather remain single than be introduced to what she described as a “struggling lifestyle.”
Her comments came in response to a post by another user, Ami Mimi, who claimed that prostitution begins when a woman believes she’s too beautiful to date a struggling man. Disagreeing with the sentiment, Umerah argued that everyone has the right to choose the kind of life they want, regardless of looks or societal expectations.
“Either beautiful or ugly, everyone should choose the life they want for themselves. Na person wey never experience what struggling means will say this nonsense,” she wrote.
Recounting a recent interaction, Umerah shared how a new acquaintance questioned her relationship status, only to lament that women often reject him because he doesn’t own a car. When he asked if she was like “those women,” Umerah said she boldly affirmed that she is.
“I don’t like men who trek. I love men who have their own car and men who are comfortable,” she said. “Struggle your struggle alone, bro. Don’t involve me.”
She added that men are often clear about their preferences in women, so women should not be shamed for having standards of their own. Umerah also criticized the double standard that labels women as materialistic or immoral for expressing their desires, noting that men often do so without facing similar judgment.
