I Have Only One Official Car; As Minister, I Earn Less than One Million Naira Monthly – Atiku Bagudu

Atiku Bagudu, Nigeria’s Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, has revealed that ministers earn less than N1 million as a monthly salary. Bagudu made this disclosure during an interview on Channels Television on Saturday.

When asked about the monthly earnings of ministers, Bagudu clarified that their salaries are determined by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

“Ministers, like every public official, have a payment that is determined by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission,” Bagudu stated.

The minister also mentioned his personal choice of vehicle, emphasizing his commitment to leading by example. “I have one official vehicle. I don’t even use it because I have a Camry that I enjoy driving. As Minister of Budget, I want to lead by example,” he said.

Regarding allowances, Bagudu expressed uncertainty. “I don’t know of any defined allowance that a minister has, but I might be wrong,” he admitted. He emphasized that the details of their compensation are publicly available and can be shared, as they are determined by RMAFC.

Bagudu acknowledged concerns about the cost of governance, noting that he is aware of the financial allocations within the country. “The cost of governance is worrisome,” he added.
