“I Do Not Coerce My Children,” Atiku Abubakar Reacts to Son’s APC Move

Atiku Abubakar has reacted to the defection of his son, Abubakar Atiku Abubakar, popularly known as Abba, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as a personal choice.

In a post on his verified X account on Thursday, Atiku said his son’s decision to join the APC was taken independently and did not reflect his own political position.

According to him, political choices by family members are not unusual in a democratic system, even when they differ from one another. He stressed that he does not interfere with the political decisions of his children, noting that he also would not impose his views on Nigerians.

Atiku used the statement to restate his criticism of the APC-led government, expressing concern over what he described as poor governance and worsening economic and social conditions in the country.

He added that he remains committed to working with others who share his views to promote good governance and to provide Nigerians with what he called a credible alternative focused on relief, stability, and national progress.
