‘I Didn’t Want Her to Expose Me’: Man, 24, Confesses to Raping 16-Year-Old Girl, Attempting to Murder Her by Throwing Her into Well
A 24-year-old man, Usman Mohammed Iyal, has been apprehended by the Katsina State Police Command for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl and attempting to murder her by throwing her into a well.
The incident occurred on September 27, 2024, when the victim was sent on an errand by her mother. Armed with a knife, the suspect accosted and threatened the victim, dragging her into an uncompleted building where he violently assaulted and raped her.
In an attempt to conceal his crime, Iyal threw the victim into a nearby well and hurled stones down, intending to kill her. However, swift police intervention saved the victim, who is currently receiving medical attention.
The suspect confessed to the crime, stating he attempted to kill the victim to avoid exposure. The Katsina State Police Command has paraded Iyal alongside other suspects charged with various offenses.
The police spokesman, Sadiq Abubakar, emphasized the command’s commitment to addressing violent crimes and ensuring justice for victims.
