Hunger Crisis: Nigerian Widow Feeds Daughters Animal Feed to Survive

A shocking revelation has emerged from Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, where a 22-year-old widow, Grace Eseneowo, has been feeding her four young daughters with chicken and fish feed due to extreme poverty. Living in her father’s home in Eket Local Government Area, Grace struggles to provide for her children, who range from five years old to just over a year old, on her meager monthly income of N15,000 earned from working at a local poultry and fishery.

The dire situation came to light when John Uzoma, the farm owner, was informed by a colleague that Grace’s children were consuming animal feed. Despite being dismissed for irregular attendance, Grace was rehired out of sympathy for her circumstances. Uzoma, deeply moved by the children’s plight, provided her with plantains and N2,000.

Grace’s story was shared by Uzoma’s daughter, QueenPraise Uzoma, a digital content creator, who posted it on Instagram, sparking a wave of public sympathy and support. QueenPraise has since raised N1.4 million in donations for Grace and her children.

Responding to the situation, the Akwa Ibom State Governor’s wife, Patience Eno, pledged support through her NGO, the Golden Initiative For All. She has also personally donated N500,000 to aid the family with essential supplies and accommodations.
