Human Rights Activist Writes IGP, Notifies Him of Nationwide Protest, Requests Police Coverage

Prominent human rights activist Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (SAN) has formally notified the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun about a series of planned protests and requested police coverage for the events.

In a letter dated July 26, 2024, Adegboruwa, acting as the solicitor for the Take It Back Movement, outlined the group’s plans for public meetings, rallies, and processions. These events are scheduled to take place from August 1 to 10, 2024, and may extend beyond these dates. The protests are set to be held at Eagle Square in Abuja, various public spaces in the capital cities of all 36 states, and at the headquarters of the 774 local government councils across the country.

Adegboruwa emphasized the critical role of the police in maintaining order during such events and requested that the IGP provide details of the police officers or teams assigned to cover the rallies. This coordination, he noted, is essential for harmonizing plans and ensuring the safety and security of all participants.
