Hudson Meek, ‘Baby Driver’ Actor, Dies at 16 After Tragic Accident

Hudson Meek, the young actor known for his role as the younger version of Ansel Elgort’s character in the 2017 film Baby Driver and for his voice work in Badanamu Stories, has passed away at the age of 16 following a devastating accident.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Meek fell from a moving vehicle in Vestavia Hills, Alabama, on December 19. He sustained severe blunt force injuries and was transported to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries two days later.

Authorities from the Vestavia Hills Police Department are investigating the incident but have not yet released any official statements.

In a heartfelt announcement on Instagram, Meek’s family expressed their grief, sharing, “Our hearts are broken to share that Hudson Meek went home to be with Jesus tonight,” describing his death as a “sudden and tragic loss.”

Meek’s family also highlighted his generous spirit in his obituary, noting that he was an organ donor whose impact would continue to be felt for years to come.

A rising star, Meek appeared in a variety of notable productions beyond Baby Driver, including Legacies, Genius on Hulu, and NBC’s Found. His family shared that he loved his time on set, often getting to know the names and stories of the cast and crew.

An Alabama native, Meek was a sophomore at Vestavia Hills High School, where he was involved in football, the honor choir, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He was also an adventurer, with a love for water sports, outdoor activities, and traveling. He visited all 50 U.S. states and aspired to explore all seven continents.

At just 13, Meek became a certified open-water scuba diver, demonstrating a tenacity and determination that his family fondly remembered. They described him as reflective, thoughtful, and quick-witted, with a unique personality that left a lasting impression on those who met him.

A devoted Auburn Tigers fan, Meek enjoyed spending time with friends, watching sports, and participating in activities that brought people together. His family shared that he thrived in settings where he could meet and serve others, embodying a confidence and conviction that defined his young life.

He is survived by his parents, Derek Firth Meek and Lani Wells Meek, his brother Tucker Firth Meek, his grandmothers, and many extended family members. Hudson Meek’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
