How Police Officers ‘Abducted’ Abuja Resident, Emptied Over N20m In His Accounts
In the midst of escalating security concerns in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), a group of police officers has been apprehended for forcefully extracting N29.9 million from a resident in Abuja.
According to Harrison Gwamnishu, a candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, the incident transpired in January. In a video shared on his X account, Gwamnishu alleged that the victim was kidnapped in Abuja by the implicated police officers, who detained him until he transferred the entire sum from his bank account to them.
The victim was reportedly taken from his site without any formal complaint against him, and he was not asked to provide a formal statement by the police officers. Gwamnishu claimed that the officers insisted the victim should contact relatives and friends to send additional funds before his release.
Accompanying the video were receipts of the transactions, providing evidence of the extortion. Confirming the arrest of some culprits, Force Spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi assured that the police force is making progress in ensuring justice prevails in the case.
“We are making a headway on this matter, and justice will be served, as some suspects have been arrested. Hakuna matata,” Adejobi stated.
