How Parent Hired Thugs to Be@t Up Vice Principal for Preventing Cheating During WAEC Exam
What began as a routine enforcement of exam rules took a violent turn at Complete Child Development College, Aule, Akure, Ondo State, when suspected thugs allegedly hired by a parent assaulted the school’s Vice Principal, Mr. Rotifa, for preventing her son from cheating in the ongoing West African Examinations Council (WAEC) exams.
A preliminary investigation by the Ondo State Ministry of Education revealed that on May 26, an SS3 student was caught with an Android phone during the examination — a direct breach of school policy. Mr. Rotifa confiscated the device, following established procedure.
The next day, the student’s mother stormed the school, angrily confronting the management and demanding the phone’s return. The situation became so heated that the school’s proprietor ordered staff to hand the device back to her.
Subsequently, the student’s brother — a former student of the school — arrived and allegedly threatened Mr. Rotifa. Later that day, the boys were reportedly seen loitering near the school. Acting on the proprietor’s advice, Mr. Rotifa reported the threats to the police.
Two officers escorted him in a police van to locate the suspects. However, on the way back, the group allegedly ambushed the van, dragged Mr. Rotifa out, and brutally beat him. He was hospitalized for treatment and has since been discharged, though he has not returned home out of fear for his safety.
The state government says investigations are ongoing, and efforts are underway to arrest those responsible. Additional security measures have been introduced to protect staff and students during the remainder of the WAEC exams.
Efforts to reach the school principal for comment were unsuccessful.
