How My Husband Was Betrayed in 2023 — Remi Tinubu
Senator Oluremi Tinubu, wife of Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has recounted experiences of betrayal by some political allies during the 2023 presidential election. In her newly released 52-page book, The Journey of Grace: Giving Thanks in All Things, published to mark her 65th birthday, the First Lady revealed that her husband had contemplated the idea of running for president for over 14 years.
According to Oluremi Tinubu, she expected support from longstanding allies but was met with disappointment. Some political associates chose to stay on the sidelines, while others waited to see the election outcome before taking a stand. She described the responses as mixed, noting that while some consultations were favorable, others were ambiguous or indirectly negative.
Reflecting on the experience, the First Lady emphasized that true reward comes from God, not from human recognition. She explained that she has forgiven those involved, saying she decided to “let go” with the help of the Holy Spirit. Drawing on biblical teachings, she highlighted the importance of doing good regardless of human response, citing the example of Jesus in Acts 10:38 and referencing Jeremiah 17:5-8 and Hebrews 12:2.
Oluremi Tinubu concluded that while people may falter, God remains the ultimate source of support, and she holds no grudges against anyone for their actions during her husband’s political journey.
