How Galaxy Backbone Tackled Over 27 Million Cyber Attacks During 2023 Elections – CEO
In a recent address, Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju, Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone Ltd, revealed that the company’s advanced security operations center successfully managed over 27 million cyber attacks during the 2023 General Elections.
Prof. Adeyanju disclosed this during a courtesy visit from Malam Jibrin Baba-Ndace, Director-General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), at his office in Abuja. He emphasized the efficacy of Galaxy Backbone’s security infrastructure, which was pivotal not only during the elections but also during recent protests in the country.
“On the election days, we faced close to 30 million cyber attacks in a single day, compared to a usual maximum of 50,000. Despite the scale of these attacks, our security operations center effectively thwarted them,” Adeyanju stated. He further noted that similar spikes in cyber attacks occurred during recent protests, which were anticipated due to prior media reports.
Galaxy Backbone’s infrastructure includes extensive monitoring facilities across nearly all Nigerian states, underscoring its role as the nation’s digital backbone. The company prides itself on its capabilities in defending the government’s cyber space and collaborating for national interests.
In response, VON DG Baba-Ndace highlighted the importance of promoting the achievements of Galaxy Backbone and other government agencies. He announced plans to broadcast the organization’s successes and President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda in eight languages, including Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, Fufulde, English, French, Arabic, and Swahili.
Ndace also called for enhanced ICT and cybersecurity training for VON staff to improve fact-checking and combat misinformation.
