Housing Ministry Warns Public Over Fraudulent Sale of Emefiele’s 753-Unit Estate

The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has raised an alarm over fraudulent activities involving the unauthorized sale of a 753-unit housing estate recently recovered from former Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele. In a statement issued by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Badamasi Haiba, the ministry made it clear that no sale of the estate has commenced and cautioned Nigerians against engaging with individuals claiming otherwise.

Reports have surfaced that scammers are soliciting payments of up to N500,000 from unsuspecting individuals under the pretense of offering “Expression of Interest” forms for the estate. These fraudsters falsely claim to be affiliated with the ministry.

The ministry confirmed that it only recently took possession of the estate from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), following directives from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It emphasized that plans are underway to complete the estate and provide necessary infrastructure before any official sale process is launched.

Housing Minister Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa has announced the formation of a technical committee tasked with assessing the estate’s structural integrity, evaluating infrastructure needs, and recommending a transparent and appropriate disposal strategy.

Reaffirming its commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, the ministry stated that any future sale will be announced publicly and handled with full transparency and accountability. Nigerians have been advised to disregard unofficial offers and to make inquiries only through the ministry’s official channels, including the Public Building and Housing Development departments and the Press and Public Relations unit.

The ministry urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to fraudulent schemes.
