Horror in Ndagbo Afara: Mother, Twin Children Killed by Mentally Unstable Relative
Panic has gripped residents of Ndagbo Afara, Umuahia North LGA in Abia State following a tragic incident where a mentally unstable man killed a woman and her twin children. The suspect, who remains at large, has left the community in fear as residents worry he may return to attack again.
The victims, four-year-old twins Moses Chris and Marvelous Chris, were killed and buried in a shallow grave by their mother’s brother, Mr. Ibekwe Augustine James, who is said to be mentally unstable. Their mother, Chinomso Nwabali James, was also killed by the suspect.
According to the Abia State Police Command, the incident was reported at the Central Police Station in Umuahia after the suspect was seen dragging his sister’s lifeless body within the family compound. A family member who witnessed the scene raised an alarm, prompting the suspect to abandon the body and flee to an unknown location.
Despite assurances from the police that efforts are underway to apprehend him, local residents remain on edge. Some community members, speaking anonymously, have called on the state government and security agencies to ensure the suspect is caught to prevent further tragedy.
The Police Public Relations Officer of Abia State Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, emphasized the importance of seeking professional care for individuals with mental health issues. She urged families to take affected relatives to psychiatric homes for treatment and rehabilitation rather than keeping them at home, where they may pose a danger to others.
Meanwhile, the police have reiterated their commitment to tracking down the suspect and bringing him to justice.
