Holy Burning Fire Ministries Pastor Kidnaps Wife’s Younger Sister, Kills Her, and Sets Body Ablaze

A South African pastor, Sonwabo Nqayi, has been denied bail after appearing in court on Thursday, July 24, 2025, in connection with the horrific kidnapping and murder of his 12-year-old sister-in-law, Lithaliyanda Ntini. Nqayi, who leads the Holy Burning Fire Ministries of God, allegedly abducted the young girl before taking her to a secluded area in NU6, Motherwell, where he reportedly killed her and set her body on fire.

According to a statement from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the child was reported missing on June 24 after failing to return home from a nearby shop. Her burned remains were discovered in the early hours of June 27, around 2:10 a.m., in a nearby bush.

The NPA confirmed that Nqayi, 39, faces charges of premeditated murder, kidnapping, and defeating or obstructing the course of justice. He first appeared in the Motherwell Magistrates’ Court on June 30, and his bail application was strongly opposed by the State due to the severity of the crime, the risk of witness intimidation, and concerns he might evade trial. The court agreed with the prosecution and denied bail.

The case has been postponed to August 28, 2025, for further investigation. The NPA emphasized its ongoing commitment to ensuring justice for victims of violent crimes, particularly those involving the most vulnerable members of society.
